After releasing his critically-acclaimed 2018 project Safe in the Hands of Love, one of the year’s most forward-thinking albums, lo-fi experimentalist and Warp Records-signed Yves Tumor has returned with brand new material. Dropping a new cut entitled “Applaud,” Tumor’s latest offering continues to hone in on his post-genre overtone, enlisting some jarring collaborative efforts from fellow avant artists Hirakish and Napolian.

Continuing with his darkly-lit sonicscapes, “Applaud” sees an unconventional hip-hop foundation being employed — boom-bap breakbeats take up much of the production’s core, whereby side-chained synths and samples round out the track’s melodies. More string screeches and a sample of a Frenchman are showcased, continuing with Tumor’s grittily abstract approach. The ending of the song employs a spoken-word interlude, finishing with “I don’t know what to do/But my eyes are on you.”

You can listen to “Applaud” above.
