Ahead of the upcoming 2023 Rugby World Cup in France,
The case was revealed yesterday on November 20th, during a test match between France and New Zealand at Stade de France stadium. The bespoke case will hold the Webb Ellis Cup, and has been hand-crafted by Louis Vuitton’s experienced artisans.
Featuring the label’s signature Louis Vuitton Monogram canvas, the exterior is covered, and decorated with a “V” which stands for both Victory, as well as Vuitton. Painted in blue, white, and red the colors pay homage to those used by the tournament. On the laterals, Roman numerals XV have been hand-painted, representing the 15 players in a rugby union team. “For the first time in the trophy trunk collection, the case is lined with rich Louis Vuitton leather, in the same Pantone blue colour,” LV explains.
Louis Vuitton has previously been creating trophy cases for some of the world’s biggest events. Its impressive track record includes the FIFA World Cup, the League of Legends World Championships, the NBA Finals, and the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, to name a few.
“It is a great opportunity to bring our savoir-faire to one of the world’s greatest sporting events, and once again to prove that ‘Victory Travels in Louis Vuitton’,“ Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO, said.
“This Official Travel Case is a wonderful representation of Louis Vuitton’s unique expertise and craftsmanship. We are honoured that it will hold the Webb Ellis Cup from now until the end of the tournament in 2023,” France 2023 CEO Claude Atcher said.
The 2023 Rugby World Cup will be the 10th edition in history and will take place between September 8 and October 28, 2023, and will also be celebrating 200 years since rugby was invented.
