Shutterstock and It Gets Better Project Launches Survey for Collaboration

In order to showcase diverse LGBTQ+ photography that has accurate representation, we need to hear from this community how we can do better.

We all have a responsibility to create a better, more welcoming, more inclusive world for everyone. We all deserve a safe space to tell our stories. As a company that continues to push the boundaries of digital storytelling, Shutterstock wants to be a better, more inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community to tell their stories, and for all of our content creators to accurately represent the LGBTQ+ experience in the content they create for us. And, we’re stoked to partner with the It Gets Better Project for this!

The It Gets Better Project and Shutterstock are partnering to create a project that encourages the LGBTQ+ community to tell their story the way they want those stories to be told. We want to give you the tools and support you need to push through your creative pursuits. Shutterstock recognizes the fact that nobody can tell LGBTQ+ stories better than the very people who are part of that community.

As a company that serves various clients and brands with stock photography, we believe that our goal to present these clients with more accurate visuals can only be achieved if we give LGBTQ+ individuals the support and platform they very much deserve. And, we want to ensure that through this partnership project with It Gets Better, we’re putting the people who are affected at the center of the solution.

We’re Launching a Survey and We Need Your Voice

Part of storytelling is educating, and we’d like to educate and be educated about how the LGBTQ+ population would want to be captured in commercial photography and videography. We want to know how we can better depict people from this community and how we can accurately represent them.

This is where YOUR VOICE is needed. If you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community, we created a survey for you to be able to tell us what we’re doing right, what we’re doing wrong, and what type of images annoy the heck out of you. By responding to this survey, you’re informing us how we can do better, how we can create more realistic and inclusive shots, where we’re lacking in terms of shot scenes, and what aspects of your day-to-day life you’d want to see portrayed more in stock photography.

Let’s Create a Better Digital Media Space

The spectrum is broad, and so is the gap. There’s still so much work to be done and we’re glad to be doing the work. It’s an honor to be part of this partnership with the It Gets Better Project. Shutterstock and IGB are inviting you to take part in advancing the conversation and educate various brands and clients, the media, and the general public on what diversity and authenticity actually looks like.
