Check out these Kindles on sale at Amazon for up to 42% off as of Oct. 6:

Does anyone else get really ambitious with their reading goals once fall rolls around? I don’t know if it’s the back to school energy or the weather that basically begs you to curl up with a tea and book, but suddenly my to-be-read stack goes from three books to 30. Thanks to e-readers, obtaining and toting around 30 books is easier than ever.

As of Oct. 6, two Kindle models are on sale for up to $55 off at Amazon. Even if you’re a complete physical book purist, these Kindles are being offered at prices that (dare we say it) might make it worth living the Kindle and physical book owner double life.

If you’re into getting the latest and greatest, there is an all-new Paperwhite available for pre-order with warmer lighting and a better battery life. However, it is $139.99, meaning you could buy both these picks below and still be spending about $5 less.

So, if you’re looking for e-readers that are still incredibly functional but won’t break the bank, check out these deals below.

BEST CLASSIC CHOICE: Kindle — $59.99

Two major reasons reading on an electronic device doesn’t feel as pleasant: light can reflect off the screen and you’re at the mercy of your battery life. These are problems you will largely not run into with the Kindle. With adjustable brightness and an anti-glare screen, reading in most environments is comfortable (and you don’t have to configure any awkward book light set ups for pre-bedtime reading). While you’re not completely free from the grip of battery life, a full charge on the Kindle can last for weeks, so it’s safe to say low battery won’t be a frequent worry. Sure, you won’t get that book smell or the experience of turning pages, but you can highlight passages, define words, and adjust text sizes as you read — might just be a fair trade-off.

BEST FOR FUN EXTRAS: Kindle Paperwhite (10th Gen, 8GB) — $74.99

Think Kindle, but with a little something extra. In the words of former Mashable editor Michael Nuñez, “It has every feature you could ask for at a very reasonable price.” Even though this is officially an older model, the 10th-gen Kindle Paperwhite still boasts the same great battery life and adjustable screen brightness, but it’s also compatible with Audible, a little smaller, and waterproof. While we wouldn’t necessarily recommend throwing your Kindle in some water for the fun of it, it can withstand being submerged in up to two meters of water for over 60 minutes. Obviously, this is huge for beach, pool, and bath readers alike. Plus, you can set up multiple reader profiles and save designated font size, boldness, and orientation settings to each, so you can share that e-reader love easily.
