One of the pressures nurses face on a day to day basis is the importance of responding to real workforce stress.

Nurses are so overworked they are forced to leave patients to die alone, survey says.

nursesurveySeventy one (71) per cent of nurses said their last daytime shift breached national guidelines, which state that more than eight patients to one nurse should act as a “red flag” signalling shortages.

One nurse said “Too many patients are dying alone,”  While the other nurse who is already 10 years into her career said she was considering to leave the profession because staff shortages meant they did not get life-saving help in time.

The poll of more 30,000 nurses found a quarter reported shifts where nurses had to try to care for a minimum of 14 patients at a time. Almost half said no action was taken when they raised concerns with hospital managers.
