According to reports, Nunuk Nuraini, the woman behind Indomie‘s “mi goreng” flavor, has died at age 59.

Serving as the Flavour Development Manager of the Indofood‘s brand for nearly 30 years, Nuraini is responsible for creating the iconic instant version of the Indonesian spicy fried noodle dish, bakmi goreng. Aside from being a staple in Southeast Asia, the icon noodles have become a global hit all over the world, spurring the development of dozens of new flavors. A graduate of Padjadjaran University’s Food Technology department in Bandung, Indonesia, Nunuk Nuraini also created “Soto,” “Rendang,” “Chicken Curry” and “Sambal Matah” flavors of Indomie.
