Some of you may know already that I
I was struggling with my diet for quite sometime and had the hardest time staying away from carbs and losing weight. I am not saying that you should never eat carbs or that all carbs are bad by any means.
Natural carbs like fruits and roots such as yuca are a great source of energy. It’s all the processed stuff that is not good for you. But I chose to follow this diet because it was one that I felt I could stick with. I always say that the best diet is the diet that you can stay on long term. There are no short cuts guys so always think longterm and lifestyle.
I did see a physician before starting this diet. He is actually an anti aging doctor in San Francisco. Anti aging doctors are the best, but thats another post. So please see an expert before you make any dietary changes. Your body is your temple. Take good care of it.
I would feel really dirty inside if all I ate was bacon, butter and cheese. I watched some videos when I first entered the diet and I saw many videos of guys talking about eating bacon and cheese all day long… see I can’t be that guy. My diet still needs to look and feel “clean”.
So I did a lot of research and found good healthy foods for my keto diet. I never ate some many greens before like I do now. I also started using foods like chia seeds and macadamia nuts, which I never used to eat. It has been fun discovering this whole other way of living.
Before I even begin with my food list, I want to say that you should really consider only using organic foods and grass-fed beef, organic chicken etc. It is very important to watch what goes into your body. Non- organic foods and meats have a lot of toxins, hormones etc, that are like poison to your body. Your body is worth the investment.
Starting with my favorite healthy fat…
Avocados used to scare me because of the high calories but you see keto does not work that way…think macros and not calories.
Some of my favorite avocado dishes include: guacamole, tuna and avocado salad (you can look this up on Pinterest) and avocado chocolate mousse.
Grass Fed Butter
So I cook all things with butter.
It also makes every dish taste that much better.
Spinach and other greens
90% or greater dark chocolate
Dark chocolate is rich in antioxidants, can increase your HDL, helps brain function and has been shown to lower blood pressure. These are just some of the benefits so go for it.
Mac nuts contain antioxidants, vitamins, such as vitamin B1 and magnesium, and minerals. It also contains a number of nutrients along with a good amount of monounsaturated fat. Macadamias are low in carbs and protein, high in oleic acid and omega-9 monounsaturated fatty acid, the same fatty acid found in olive oil.
Think protein and omegas. Hemp hearts are rich in protein and have all 10 essential amino acids.
Hemp hearts also make a great oat-less oatmeal.
I think we are all pretty familiar with chia seeds. But in case you are not…chia seeds are loaded with fiber, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and various micronutrients. It’s super healthy and I really encourage you to it eat.
For me they are the best source of fiber. It also works very well in so many dishes. I learned to do a mean pudding with chia seeds, coconut milk, stevia and chocolate syntha edge protein powder.
